part 1

The desire to share something beautiful that attracts the contemplative state is the primary motivation of my creations. It is by imitation that my work is elaborated in two distinct directions, which partly influence each other. In some of my works, I apply myself to accurately and faithfully imitate human nature. For others, I focus more on the supernatural, drawing on ideas and the imaginary beyond the senses.

On one hand, I reproduce precisely human anatomy and appeal to universal affects. That’s why I’m trying to eliminate as much clues as possible about the subject’s age, gender or environment. It is less a question of the figured individual than of the feeling that his representation evokes. In this sense, I want to approach the body truth, which carries clear emotions. This aspect of my work is entirely related to observation and accuracy in the reproduction of traits.

On the other hand, I introduce a dimension that draws on the cultural imagination as well as in my own mind. To do this, I only have a vague idea of he finished product initially. I give myself the freedom to add, remove and change the elements that compose it, and throughout the course of its realization. Thus, the spontaneous product of my imagination comes into play. The goal is to transmit a narrative inviting a state of reverie or a reflective state. From this process result works of mythical aspect, with rich and diverse colors.

For me, photography is a good tool to convey my interpretation of beauty in a faithful manner. Before painting, I place my subjects in an environment inspired by my initial idea in order to produce a series of images that I will refer to later. Acrylic painting and oil painting are the mediums I use, for the expanse of the various techniques that have been developed throughout history. Also, they allow change and trial-error. In addition, painting is part of a historical continuum of representation of the cultural imaginary. It is all the more relevant. Thus, I convey my interpretation of a reality at once literal and imagined, emerging from the physical dimension by the photographic support and from the psychic dimension through introspection.
